Section IV Meeting Today

I don't know what happened at the last board meeting (whoever sets the time for them declined to reschedule in order for my wife--who is a member--to attend), but there were things discussed that could affect everyone, depending on today's vote(s).

Although I have asked in the past how I can be informed about upcoming board matters, no one has replied to my request. I have not received an agenda for today's meeting, so I don't know which of the following will be discussed or voted on. However, here were some of the issues from the Sept. meeting, which apparently were expected to come up for vote today:

DECKS

The board is apparently discussing the possibility of replacing all decks or just some. Some alternatives, I believe, would require an assessment. Also unclear to me, is who decides which decks get replaced. How do we get our decks on the list? What's the mechanism? As far as I know, even board members have no information about this. Anyone who does have information on these issues has yet to disseminate it to the general, Section IV membership.

PAINTING

Apparently, some discussion was held on which units will be done first. Again, I'm aware of no attempt to disseminate information to us about any outcomes of those discussions or what options are on the table.

There was also some mention in the agenda for the previous meeting about "need[ing] money" to paint and replace siding. It's not clear to me whether that means an assessment is also under consideration for this issue.

NOTE

I won't be surprised if someone comes along and poo-poos this as fear-mongering or something, and then answers all these questions. My point is that no one is making sure we have the information BEFORE decisions get made. So, if you have answers, please post them so everyone can see. With any luck, we'll begin to get this kind of information shared with everyone PRIOR to 24 hours ahead of meetings.

Windows?

We may have to replace a window. Does anyone have any suggestions for handymen who can fix these things... or guidance for what does/does not meet POA guidelines if we do have to replace?

Exterminator

Erin just emailed me to let me know an exterminator will be coming tomorrow, Thursday. I presume the exterminator will be hitting all the affected sites, but I have not yet confirmed that.

Ants

One of the De Rosers I spoke to this weekend said the POA has arranged for exterminations in the past, so I have an email in to Erin, specifically requesting that we get an exterminator who will address the issue of finding and killing the colony base, too.

Oh, and I had an inquiry this weekend about posting something on the blog--an email exchange two Eagle Ridgers were having. Of course, I want this forum to be as open as possible, but the subject matter was not Eagle Ridge-related, so I'd advise against it. Remember--anyone can comment on any blog posting, and anyone who wants to get registered so they can write blog postings themselves should just contact me.

People!

Okay, we've had our first few visitors and I've got a few things to say.

One: Quick police update. In case you hadn't heard, the W. Orange PD were looking for a resident recently. They had a warrant for his arrest on several serious felony charges. I called the police a couple of nights ago and they informed me that this person had turned themselves in and was out on bail. This news should not alarm you. If anything, this should come as a relief. People who have turned themselves in and are out on bail are a lot less likely to do something stupid and/or criminal as it would (a) jeopardize their criminal case and/or (b) risk forfeiting the money put up for bail.

Two: Postings. Right now, I'm the only person who can post (everyone can comment). If anyone else is interested, please just let me know and I'll add you to the list. This isn't my blog, it's our blog.

Three: I went around De Rose Court today to survey the scope of an ant problem (big black carpenter ants, not the teeny ones) we've been having and, indeed, several homes reported ants. I'll be communicating with everyone who reported ants via email.

Four: Am I missing anything? Please let me know. Thanks, and please tell your neighbors about this site.

Speak Up!

Okay, I see by the wonders of Google that some folks have come by and checked out the site. Thanks! The next step is to start talking!

I've got plenty of things I'd like to address (believe me!) but I want to ensure everyone's got a voice on this site. So, the first thing that occurred to me is I'm currently the only person authorized to post here. Everyone can comment, of course. But if you want to post, please let me know and I'll add you to the list.

That said, everyone who visits, please at least chime in with a hello! Tell us a little bit about yourself. For instance, I live on De Rose with my wife and our son, a toddler. We've lived here almost four years and are very happy with the place.

Okay, your turns!

Welcome, Eagle Ridgers

Hi all,

I've created this website so that everyone who lives at Eagle Ridge can have an open forum to communicate about problems, solutions and ideas for improving our lives and our lot at Eagle Ridge.

I haven't figured out yet whether or how to organize things by topic. But I think the most important thing is first to spread the word and get people participating here. A few caveats--please avoid language that is personally insulting. You can savage ideas without attacking the people espousing them. Please try to avoid conspiracy theorizing--if you have evidence of something, by all means share it; otherwise, please resist the temptation to speculate. Also, in the interest of keeping things positive, please try to offer at least one suggestion for every problem you identify.

As the site grows and participation expands, I hope we can start working together on some of our common concerns. Any questions? Thoughts?
